NELSON'S GREEN BRIER DISTILLERY
Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery is made up of four distinct components: the distillery production area, barrel storage facilities, business offices, and a public tasting room and gallery space. The facility is located within two bays of a 100-year-old industrial warehouse building, and we chose to maintain the patina of this building in our rendition of the space. The existing bow-string trusses and wood decking of the building were left exposed, and the majority of the patchwork brick-and-block masonry walls were cleaned and left unpainted. Our design for the tasting room was inspired by the whiskey production process, utilizing steel plates at the bar face and barn doors in the retail area and private tasting room to call back to the farmed grains and ingredients. The tasting room is lined with locally sourced red and white oak siding, and repurposed barrel staves from the Nelson’s own whiskey barrels were used to clad the retail area. All these elements work together to create a timeless, personalized experience that feels somehow both exciting and familiar.
