Hawkins Fieldhouse
Determined to provide enhanced facilities and more built exposure for the Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team, Vanderbilt University commissioned Gilbert | McLaughlin Architects to expand the baseball stadium's seating and design a field house comprised of team locker rooms, coaches' offices, a team classroom, and a Hall of Fame space planned to recognize the past and present achievements of Commodores Baseball. Located in a very confined area between the third base line and the immediately adjacent football stadium, the final form of the facility was generated by the shape of the unique site. Durable exterior materials were selected, and angled screens with super graphics provide protection for the generous amount of glazing facing the field from the exposure ot the southern sun and foul balls.
