Planned to occupy a 10-acre arboretum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, this private museum is intended to house the work of a single artist. Mr. Downing, an internationally recognized artist creates both abstract paintings and large sculptures informed by his interpretation of light through abstract shapes and colors. The design for the museum looks to his study of light for inspiration with varied amounts of natural light entering the museum. Visitors will enter the museum below grade and progress on a series of slightly ramping linear galleries, planned to display flatwork, which will link tall “chamber” galleries appropriate for the display of sculpture.
