This addition and renovation to an existing residence in Nashville provides multi-layered space for both public and private functions. The steeply inclined wooded site, along with the irregular geometry of the existing house required a compact footprint to be utilized. Generous amounts of glass and exterior balcony spaces take advantage of the views and a stone and concrete chimney anchor the new addition while through the use of exposed steel columns the structure is kept visually light. The third floor addition has allowed visitors and the owners to experience a new perspective from high within the surrounding tree canopy and combined with the challenges presented by the topography and existing structure have helped to allow the creation of a unique work of architecture.
