HERITAGE RIVERFRONT PARK
Master Plan
This master plan, commissioned by the Tallassee Redevelopment Authority, had Gilbert McLaughlin Casella architects working with TRA and the Tallassee Historic Preservation Society to explore the potential of an abandoned mill complex. Located along the west bank of the Tallapoosa River in Tallassee, Alabama, the two main mill structures are proposed to be renovated into a hotel and conference center which may also house a textile museum and a restaurant. A third structure is proposed to be renovated into a museum focusing on the history of the region. New structures, including an Amphitheater and a public building, have also been identified as possible options to occupy the site. Pavilions, a greenway, renovation of an existing bridge into a walking bridge, numerous history plazas, and an art walk are proposed to allow the site to realize its full potential and to be integrated into the surrounding downtown and natural environment.
